Point Formula for ships *Revisited*
« on: January 30, 2009, 12:52:22 AM »
Ok first yes I did just go mythbuster on you guys but eh and this is mainly to put this up for us creative guys and any one else for quick reference. Some of the information is out of date because this was originally done BEFORE Ground Assault however this shall be considered an update in progress to include the new stuff mainly these:
:armor: :veteran: :convert: :command: :dogfight: :ruthless: :airborne: :elite: :blaster: :bdroid: :transport: :recon: :artillery:

EDIT: For construction purposes ATK and DEF values equal 1 point (* this point is completely separate from anything else and means nothing for gameplay)

Attack and Defense each cost 1 point per point
Damage and Shields Each cost 2 points per point
2 Point icons:
:droid: :leader: :laser: :torpedo: :trooper: :transport: :bdroid: :blaster: :elite: :airborne: :ruthless: :veteran: :command: :convert: :dogfight: :recon:

4 Point icons:
:turbo: :carrier: :armor: :artillery:

The costs are pretty consistent throughout the line, exceptions noted.

One Star: Common = 16
              Uncommon = 18
              Rare = 18
              Promo = TBD

Two Star:Common = 23
              Uncommon = 24
              Rare = 25
              Promo = TBD

Three Star: Common = TBD
                Uncommon = 27-29
                Rare = 27-30
                Promo = TBD

Four Star: Common = N/A
               Uncommon = 36
               Rare = 37-39
               Promo = TBD

Five Star: Common = N/A
              Uncommon = 40-45
              Rares = 46-50.
              Promo = TBD

Credit goes to Starnite for this and Gethralkin for showing it to me, however I have made some changes as I feel that promos are in a category by themselves for each star and because of that I removed the notes stating exceptions to the given numbers. Well enjoy and pm me if you have anything you think I should add.

Nicely done. You might explain at the outset, though, what the points represent to avoid confusion.

What about Cloaking?  Would that be a 2 or 4 point icon?

For now, I will assume it a 4 point icon.

Please discuss.

At the moment, we've only got the Rogue Shadow (nominally a 3 :star: rare, but really a promo), and it's not much to go on. It could really be either 2 or 4 points. Not counting the :cloaking: icon, the uncloaked Rogue Shadow comes in at 26 points. The problem is that the stats for the cloaked R.S. are a lot less powerful - it comes in at 22 points without :cloaking:.
For the moment, I would go for 4 points, but who knows?

Well, the ship will be costed for the starting side as that is how it begins play.

26 points for the RS is about right.  Add in the 4 for Cloaked and you have a 30 point :star: :star: :star: rare unit.  The upper limit for the group.

I believe that the :cloak: icon is 4 points and is to be taken off of the cloaked side and not counted toward the uncloaked side. I have had similar thoughts to the :convert: and :veteran: icons as well.

I would tend to agree with grimunderworld that we should go by the uncloaked side, as that's how the unit starts play. The cloaked side of Rogue Shadow seems a bit underpowered by comparison.
For :veteran:, I would expect it to only count for the side it's on (also the starting side).
As for :convert:, I would expect it to apply on both sides, but as these units switch from  :star: to  :star::star: on flipping, they're a bit odd anyway, and I'm not convinced that they are always consistent on either side with "normal" units.

In a lot of cases as well, the :vetern: units gain a star when they are promted.  Look at Errant Venture.

I am currently looking into and plan on reporting today the reliability of this formula.  It mostly holds true, but there are a few units that are under or over costed.  Once I finish, we can discuss.
