SWPocketModels.com Forum Stars Changes
« on: August 02, 2007, 01:07:42 PM »
Some of you may have noticed that you "lost" some Stars under your screen-name.  The ranking system (indicated by star-count and titles) that was put in place when the forums first opened wasn't enough we figured out.  Since the forum activity (and hence user post counts) have already far exceeded what was predicted for the first month, so we've changed up the Ranks a bit to reflect a longer span of usage.  We're keeping the exact counts needed for advancement a secret, but I will tell you that there are now 8 Ranks that can be achieved, and that new users start at the rank "Recruit".

That's awesome that new ranks have been added.  I like how ranks allow for an indication of a user's activity and how long they have been on the forums.  Though, having a ranking system with that many levels could lead to people spamming just to increase their post count and spam is never a good thing.

i think that is why having the number of post for the next level 'secret' is a good thing.

I like ranks! Ranks are a fun, wonderful, and exciting thing.... but also addicting. Spam posts should be avoided whenever possible. I personally rarely ever do a "Yeah" or "Me too" post without having something worthwhile to add to it.

Did I mention I is a rank *hore?

Yeah.  Me too.

A few other forums I frequent do not display post counts because there is that inevitable situation of people trying to level their post counts.  Especially on TCG, CCG, RPG forums the last thing some people want to do is give users a number they can increase through simple actions.

This forum seems to have an awesome userbase, though, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

Spamming would be a useless endeavor.  I could just as easily set your post count to -1000000  :o ;D

So... does that mean you can migrate my post count over from the WK boards?  ;D

Yeah I was kinda pissed at first when I found out I was demoted. I was like, crap what did I do wrong. Its cool though. I always liked ranks. I know it can cause spamming, but its cool to see how much you really do participate to a community. I never spam though. I like to try and bring something interesting to the boards.

Us mods will do our best to keep a tight lid on spammers.  Post deletion if necessary, and as mattyh pointed out, we can always threaten with infinite negative post count, rofl.

But ultimately the reason for the change was to draw out the duration of the rank system.  As it was, people would likely hit the highest rank by end of next month or so.
