This cropped up in discussion elsewhere, and as it has general interest I thought it should be raised in the Rules section proper:
I have a copy of Aayla Secura in play, and I announce a Combat Action in which one of the battles involves my Aayla Secura's Jedi Starfighter. During that battle, I discard the Aayla Secura Objective to get +4 Defense.
The question is: does the Starfighter still also get the +1 Defense from the Objective for being a Jedi unit?

I don't have the rules in front of me (so no nuances), but I would think yes.  Correct me if I'm wrong but don't face-up objective abilities apply before you are given the option of discarding?

For nearly all Discard Objectives, the "general" ability and the "discard" ability are completely seperate. The Aayla Secura DO is unique in that both abilities have similar effects during battles, so questions arise as to when the DO is discarded, and when each ability is triggered.
Does the main ability trigger when a Combat Action is declared? If not, then I expect it will come down to whether or not the card can be considered in both states ("in play" and discarded) during Step 5 of the "Battling" sequence ("Find your unit's defense result...")

I look at it the same way as the Coruscant Industrial Zone. Even when CIZ itself is being replaced by another face-up card, thereby removing CIZ from play, it still grants a unit from reserves because the ability was active during the objective swap part of the turn.

If Aayla Secura follows the same pattern, then its ability is active during the combat action taking place and can indeed perhaps count the Jedi bonus. One thing to keep in mind is that there are no "phases" of battle as other TCGs utilize, and the ability does not specify when during the battle it needs to be discarded.

Another thing to consider is that the discard ability remains active after the objective is replaced. Therefore, the counting of a bonus added to a unit base stat is possible even after an objective is removed, and counting the Jedi bonus could be considered as valid as the discard ability.

I would take the MTG approach to this, which is the ability triggers during a combat action (yours or your opponents) and gives +1 Def to all Jedi units. After that, combat would be declared with the individual units so you would then have a chance to activate the discard ability. Even though the source is now gone the ability has already activated and resolved and will last until the end of the action.

I'm sorry guys, I would have been on more in the past year but life has been complicated and kept me busy. Still interested in the game though.

ender, if we're thinking in terms of MTG, and the objective is giving a static ability while it's in play, sort of like another creature in MTG that gives others a +1 .... then whenever it's removed, the effect no longer persists.  If I kill your pumping creature , even during a blocking or damage step in MTG, you aren't getting that boost from the destroyed creature that was pumping. Right? But then again, you can't really just go by the rules of other games.

I still think that the unit does not get the +1, due to the objective being discarded and therefore no longer offering the bonus.
